From the back of the book:
Bruce Hayman was born at Waimate in 1919, but has lived almost all his life in the Mackenzie Country, on 'Tasman Downs Station. The Nut that Changed my Life is his life story, covering not only the day to day farming life on a high country station, but also his war service as a pilot in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, flying bombing operations from Tunisia. His operational service ended when his Wellington bomber crashed on Mt. Etna, Sicily, in December 1943, and he was badly injured. Rescued by Sicilian Mafiosi, Bruce spent the rest of the war recuperating before returning to New Zealand and 'Tasman Downs. The title of his book refers to the loose nut which necessitated an emergency landing in North Africa when en route to the Far East - and altered the course of his life.
