From the blurb:

The author of the classic Models of the Church here explores Christianity's central doctrine: that Christianity is based on the word of God as given to the church. Using a similar structure to his earlier book, Dulles first derives and compares five models of revelation-as doctrine, as history, as inner experience, as dialectical presence, and as new awareness. He then goes on to explore the meaning and relation of these models for theology, considering symbolic mediation, Christ as the summit of revelation, the Bible, the church, and eschatology.

"To some readers the disputes about revelation may seem excessively abstract and arid," writes Dulles. "[But] revelation is the source and center, the beginning and end, of the theological enterprise."

Avery Cardinal Dulles, S.J., (1918-2008), is widely acknowledged as one of the leading Catholic thinkers of the 20th century. A convert to Catholicism, he entered the Jesuit Novitiate in 1946 and was ordained in 1956. He received his doctorate in theology from the Gregorian University in Rome in 1960. A former president of the Catholic Theological Society of America, he taught and lectured widely, serving as Laurence J. McGinlay Professor of Religion and Society at Fordham University from 1988. He was elevated to the College of Cardinals by Pope John Paul II in 2001.
