A 1950s printing of this classic grammar of the Maori language. Sir Apirana Nagata (1874-1950) was a Maori leader, lawyer, scholar, statesman, and politician and one of his major objectives was the preservation of the native language, at a time when Maori was often viewed as a dying race. His manual of Maori conversation and grammar was aimed specifically at helping preserve the Maori language, but also for use by Europeans seeking to become familiar with it.
