In her preface the author/artist said, "a love of painting and love of the New Zealand bush brought forth this book.": She prepared for the book over 18 years travelling through NZ on "plant hunting" expeditions and was assisted in locating some species through the help of friends. The main content is the 228 full page plates of different trees and shrubs, each plate featuring multiple images. Every plate is an eloquent expression the care and attention of the artist in displaying each variety in close detail.
