Published to mark the centenary of the Wellington Fire Brigade in 1965 this history also covers the years prior to the official formation of the brigade and as a result is also the story of organized fire fighting in the country's earliest years of settlement. It also records the remarkable developments in fire fighting technology. Most of all, it is a tribute to the capital's fire fighters and the major blazes they fought.
