The Hammond family book initially touches on a little of the English history of the family and then follows brothers Matthew and Richard Hammond who travelled from Yorkshire, England with their wives Sarah, Amelia and their young children. After landing in New Zealand, both families initially settled in Wellington and after a few years moved northwards and arrived at York Farm in the Rangitikei in 1855. The farm's 2475 acres included the area on which Marton is now built. The family trees in the book record each of the descendants until 1998.
