This collection of stories from the pioneering days of Taupo, situated to the north of NZ's largest lake of the same name, contains much that would be found in a more formal history and thus provides many interesting insights into the region's early days. Opening with some Maori legends from pre-European times it then moves on to cover subsequent developments up to the 1950s, but concentrating on the pioneering days. Much of the content derives from the records of the author's father, the Rev H J Fletcher, a missionary and Maori scholar, who resided in Taupo for 30 years.
