Shortly after service in WWII Tom Clark and his wife Meri became members of the NZ lighthouse service, based on of of the many islands in the Hauraki Gulf, leading to the Port of Auckland. In the years that followed he served at lights from the southwest tip of the South Island to the northernmost point of the North Island. During these appointments, the Clark offspring grew to five with Meri more often than not teacher as well as mother. Family life in a lighthouse, usually in isolated and bleak locations, complements the experiences, dangers, and hardships of the actual keepers. The author has researched and included historic events involving NZ lighthouses to produce a most interesting, rounded, and readable account. This is the 1963 1st. edition.
