Condition: This is a used book in good condition. The dustjacket has wear with creasing and tears - see photos. The dust jacket has now been covered in a non-adhesive PVC cover for its own protection. This is simply folded in place and is easy to remove without damaging the jacket.

The author, who was a professor of geology at Victoria University, Wellington, was a leading academic on the study of vulcanism and this book is regarded as a classic on the topic. His study has two parts, the mechanism of volcanism (six chapters), and volcanic landscapes ( 12 chapters). In his introduction to this revised edition, he says the book is "frankly concerned with landforms of volcanic origins. rather than with theories of volcanism." First published in 1944 this revised edition in 1952, 416 pages including an appendix and index, b/w photos, drawings, diagrams etc throughout, 223 figs in all.
